Millennium
Millie for short was the first successful birth
for the University of Tennessee Cloning Project. She was the first
Jersey calf cloned in the United States from a somatic cell of
an adult animal.
Sadly,
Millie passed away on June 4, at approximately 9 months of age
due to a bacterial infection commonly found in dairy cattle. While
the Institute of Agriculture's faculty and staff, especially those
working closest with her, will miss Millie, the Cloning Project
will continue its research to learn more about cloning animals
from adult somatic cells.
Even
though Millie was only with the project a short time, her birth
expanded the worlds knowledge regarding cloning and reproduction
efficiency.
