University Course Catalog
The program in Animal Science can be tailored to
fit students' personal needs and career goals while meeting departmental
and university requirements. The curriculum has two concentrations.
A variety of general education courses in biological,
computer, social and physical sciences in addition to English and
communication, math and humanities are included in the Animal Science
curriculum. In the Production and Management Concentration additional
coursework is required in animal science, non-animal science agriculture
and directed business electives. In the Science and Technology Concentration,
students concentrate a larger position of their curriculum in the
biological and physical sciences. By choosing electives carefully,
students may minor in supporting areas such as agricultural economics,
plant and soil science, ornamental horticulture and landscape design,
agricultural engineering or food science and technology.
For students interested in veterinary medicine,
there are two ways to meet the veterinary
college entrance requirements and earn a BS in Agriculture with
a major in Animal Science:
-
Complete the requirements for the BS under
the Science
and Technology Concentration using electives to meet
vet school requirements.
-
Participate in the 3
and 1 program. In this program, all pre-vet requirements
and certain courses in animal science are taken during the first
three years at UT Knoxville. The BS degree is awarded upon successful
completion of the first year in the College of Veterinary Medicine.
