  1. The 2008 State Market Hog Show will be held in Murfreesboro. The dates for the state show are Tuesday, January 22 for entry and processing and Wednesday, January 23 for the show and sale
  2. Each exhibitor may tag and enter up to 12 hogs.
  3. Each exhibitor may show up to two pens of three and up to six individual (singles) in the show. Hogs shown in the pens of three cannot be shown as individuals
  4. A $5.00 entry fee will be charged for each hog entered. Entry fee must accompany entry form. All entry fee money will be used for cash awards to exhibitors.
  5. Each exhibitor may enter one hog in the carcass division. Carcass hogs will be scanned using the Aloka 500 scan machine. Awards will be based upon percent lean as calculated from the scan data. Carcass pigs will be eligible to show in their regular show classes either pens of three or individual classes. All carcass pigs must weight between 230 and 270 pounds.
  6. Hogs must be tagged at least 90 days before the show. They must be tagged using tags furnished by the District Extension Office. Tagging of pigs must be personally supervised by a county extension agent or vocational agricultural teacher. Agent or teacher must verify with their signature that tags were placed in the ears of all pigs entered on the days specified on the entry form.
  7. There will be no weight limits for hogs shown in the 2008 show and sale (except for the carcass class). Hogs will be divided into classes depending on weight and will be broken into as equal numbers as possible. Classes may not have equal weight ranges and will depend on the actual weight and number of hogs that are exhibited. There will be no more than 15 singles classes. If over 20 pens of three are shown, there will be two classes. If less than 20 pens of three are shown, there will be one class.

Note: It is highly recommended that hogs weigh between 230 and 270 pounds at show and sale time. Packers generally will discount hogs that are outside this weight range.

  9. All hogs entered in the show and sale must be owned and in the possession of the Exhibitor ON OR BEFORE October 25, 2007.
  10. One bale of shavings will be provided for every two pens of hogs that are exhibited at the show and sale. One pen will provide space for three hogs.
  11. The extension agent or vocational agriculture teacher is responsible for tagging hogs to be shown and marketed in the Market Hog Program. Entry forms must be received in the Swine Extension Office no later than November 1, 2007.
  12. Ear tags are donated by the Tennessee Farmers Cooperative. Each district office is supplied with ear tags for county use. Order only those tags that are needed to tag your county market hog entries for this year. These tags are not to be used for any other purpose. Unused tags should be returned to the district office.
