BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

Dr. Doyle G. Meadows is Extension Horse Specialist for the University of Tennessee, headquartered at Ellington Center in Nashville, Tennessee. Doyle received his Ph.D. in equine nutrition from Texas A & M University.

Dr. Meadows came to Tennessee from Oklahoma where he was a horse industry leader for ten years. He served on the Board of Directors of the Oklahoma Quarter Horse Association and was elected to the OQHA Executive Committee in 1986. In January 1987, Doyle was elected to the American Quarter Horse Association Board of Directors. Meadows is a member of several horse breed groups and associations.

Doyle has worked as Extension 4-H agent in Bell County, Texas, and County Chairman in Stephens County, Texas. In 1979, Dr. Meadows started the horse program at Oklahoma State University where he was Extension Horse Specialist and Assistant Professor on the resident teaching staff in Animal Science. He has published more than 300 nutrition and related horse management papers in both popular and professional journals. Meadows is not only a successful scientist and professor, but also has shown World Top Ten Quarter Horses and a champion at the Quarter Horse Congress. Dr. Meadows has shown in Quarter Horse shows throughout the United States.

The horse specialist, a professional judge for sixteen years, has judged throughout the U.S. as well as Canada, Uruguay, Holland, Mexico, Germany, Switzerland and France. He was selected to judge the 1991 American Quarter Horse Association Youth World Championship Show held in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Doyle has coordinated the 4-H and adult horse educational activities across the state for the Extension Service since his 1989 arrival in Tennessee.

Dr. Meadows has been extremely active in teaching youth to ride and judge horses. His judging teams -- both collegiate and youth -- have won many national horse judging titles, including the American Quarter Horse Congress, AQHA World Show, American Paint Horse Nationals, Pinto Nationals, Eastern National 4-H and a host of other regional horse judging contests. He was the first president of the National Horse Judging Team Coaches Association and was honored by that association as "Outstanding Horse Industry Leader" in 1987.

Dr. Meadows has been a consultant for several major companies and has done consulting work for Provesta Corporation, a subsidiary for Phillips Petroleum Company. He has also conducted nutritional seminars and animal health meetings for Tractor Supply Company.

Doyle is married to Gloria Gill Meadows and they have two daughters and live in Fayetteville, Tennessee.
