Course Description: Beef cattle management is presented in the dynamic environment commonly faced by professional managers of cattle enterprises. Using the Internet and other electronic technologies, the course focuses on the cow/calf and stocker segments of the beef industry. Since both of these segments of the industry depend heavily on forages, grazing management is emphasized. The text for the class is the Internet. Web links to sites containing accurate and up-to-date background information pertaining to all topics are provided to students. CourseInfo is used as the online learning environment while Blackboard® is used for online course management. 3 hours. Live on web for 2 hours per week with off-line discussions.

Objectives: At the conclusions of the course students will be able to:

1) become an efficient user of the vast information available through the internet;

2) evaluate a cattle enterprise and determine key components that need to be changed to improve profitability of the operation;

3) develop a specific plan to implement needed changes by using decision making skills obtained during this course; and

4) expand problem based learning skills to other aspects of managing a beef enterprise
