2004 Roundup Winners Named
Two outstanding 4-H families were honored with the Hale Master
4-H Family award during State 4-H Roundup at the University of Tennessee,
Knoxville. Those awarded the W.M. and Ruth Hale Tennessee Master
4-H Family recognition were:
*The
Brown Family from Coffee County (George, June, Daniel, Christy,
Adam, and Samantha) - Horse Project Group
*The
Lemley Family from Robertson County (Jimmy, Mary Lee, Marissa,
Rebekah, and Abigail)
This program recognizes 4-H families who have shown consistent
leadership ability and exceptional participation in all phases of
4-H work. The Hales established an endowment in 1983 to provide
funds for the Master Family recognition. Mrs. Hale presented the
awards to the Brown and Lemley families during the awards banquet
at Roundup.
The state winner in the adult volunteer leader recognition program
for 2004 is Becky
Nichols of Bedford County. Becky has served as a volunteer leader
for 25 years. She currently works with the Bedford County 4-H youth
development program and the Wranglers horse project group.
She served as the 2003 Chair of the State Committee of Volunteer
Leaders. Becky is also a member of the Southern Region Volunteer
Leader Forum planning committee.
The award includes a trip to National 4-H Congress in Atlanta and
the Charlene Hamilton Powell memorial plaque sponsored by Dr. and
Mrs. Kenneth Kant.
Congratulations to both Becky Nichols and the Extension staff in
Bedford County. The runner-up for the award was Jan Foy of Henry
County.
TENNESSEE 4-H ROUNDUP AWARDS PROGRAM RESULTS
Several 4-H’ers were recognized at the Tennessee 4-H Roundup
awards banquet, Tuesday night, July 20. Each Level I winner received
the 4-H Horizon Award and is eligible for a $500 scholarship if
they major in agriculture or family and consumer science at UTM
or UTK. Each Level II winner received a silver tray, the Lee Medallion,
and a trip to National 4-H Congress.
