2010 UT Horse Judging Team rebuilds from a successful 2009 season

As part of AS 461-Equine Evaluation, new students have began preparation to build from the success experienced by the 2009 Team. This course educates students on the current industry standards used to evaluate and select both stock-type horses and, of course, the Tennessee Walking Horse. As an added benefit, AS 461 serves as a preparatory course for students in intercollegiate competition as members of the UT Horse Judging Team.

2010 Horse Judging TeamOn March 26th, the Team traveled to Murfreesboro, TN to participate in the MTSU Intercollegiate Judging Contest. Though this outing was intended to serve primarily as practice for student in the class, they displayed their true potential as a Team receiving 3rd-place in Halter, 4th-place in Performance, 4th-place in Reasons, and 5th-place Overall. Laura Nester (So. in Animal Science), led the Team, receiving individual honors of 2nd-place in Halter, 4th-place in Reasons, and 4th-place Overall.

The Team’s final competition for the spring semester will be in Fort Worth, TX at the American Paint Horse Association Spring Sweepstakes. In addition, students will be traveling across Texas to practice at reputable horse farms in preparation for the contest and, as well, will gain some knowledge pertaining to the Texas Horse Industry. In the fall, the Team will be competing at the All-American Quarter Horse Congress and the AQHA World Show.
