Management Internship Program
Purpose:
To provide University of Tennessee undergraduate students the opportunity
to gain hands-on management experience in the beef industry by working
at participating University of Tennessee
Experiment Stations.

Highland Rim Experiment Station
Description:
The day-to-day duties of the intern will primarily be up to the
supervisor. The intern should expect a wide array of activities
but will not be considered a general laborer providing 6 hours per
week of free labor. Below are areas of exposure that the intern
should expect to see and do, although some areas are only appropriate
depending on the time of the year.

Requirements:
Junior or Senior Standing (Preference will be given to Seniors)
Preference will be given to Animal Science students, although all
majors can apply. Must be willing to commit to 6 hours of work per
week when classes are in session. Submit a written summary of experiences
in the program prior to the end of semester
Selection Criteria:
Students will not be selected solely based upon their present animal
production ability, as the purpose of this program is to provide
interested students livestock experience that they would not normally
receive. Applicants will be evaluated on the basis of the following
formula: 1/3 Grade Point Average, 1/3 Livestock Activities, 1/3
Interview.
1/3 - Grade Point Average: Applicants must have a good academic
record and their study habits need to be conducive to extra responsibilities.
1/3 - Livestock Activities: This is to evaluate the applicants’
desire to seek livestock experience, such as Judging Teams, Clubs,
Jobs, etc.
1/3 - Interview: Applicants will be interviewed by the Selection
Committee in order to evaluate communication skills, present livestock
knowledge and background.
