Livestock Judging Team
News: Volunteer Classic Livestock Judging Camp August 2-4, 2009
A livestock judging team is comprised of five or more undergraduate students who are presently enrolled or have completed the livestock evaluation course at the University of Tennessee. These students are trained to evaluate cattle, hogs and sheep based upon their carcass and maternal characteristics, skeleton and aesthetic traits, and performance records. The judging team offers students a once in a lifetime opportunity to travel to some of the top livestock operations throughout the central and eastern United States. Moreover, these students are given the chance to meet some of the most influential people within the livestock industry. Students will test their training and animal evaluation skills against other students from Universities located across the US. Annually, the UT Livestock Judging Team may participate, but not limited, to contests in Colorado, Texas, Mississippi, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, and Tennessee. However, probably the most important impact made on students, is their enhanced communication skills, decision making abilities, and of course, the lifetime friends they will acquire!
The University of Tennessee Animal Science Department has a rich tradition of sponsoring successful Livestock Judging Teams. Many of these teams have helped educate and shape some of our most prominent agricultural industry leaders. We hope you will consider participating on a livestock judging team, who knows, maybe you will be that next great leader!
