Kick off the 2010-2011 judging season at UT Animal Science.
Enjoy specific instruction in evaluating beef, sheep and swine,
taking notes and preparing and giving oral reasons.
Camp is $125 per participant, which includes all lodging, food and transportation. Additionally, all participants will receive a t-shirt and a livestock judging manual. Camp is open to first 50 participants on a first come, first serve basis. Eligible participants are 6th-8th graders (Junior High) and 9th-12th graders (Senior), as of August 2011. In an effort to encourage team participation, coaches of any 4-member team that attends the camp (from same county/chapter in same division) can attend for free. Registration and payment are due by June 15. Event is sponsored by UT Animal Science.

First Annual Volunteer Classic Livestock Judging Camp Success!
The Volunteer Classic Livestock Judging Camp was hosted by the Department of Animal Science on August 2-4, 2009. Thirty-eight judgers from Dyer, Lincoln, Marshall, Warren, McMinn, Blount, Loudon, Campbell, Claiborne, Hawkins and Washington Counties learned the basics of note-taking, reasons and using EPD’s on the first day. Day 2 consisted of an all day beef, swine and sheep clinic at Blount Farm. The camp wrapped up on Day 3 with a judging contest at Heritage High School. Taking top honors in the Senior Division were: 1st - Haley Cobb (Lincoln County), 2nd - Nathan Harmon (McMinn County) and 3rd Wesley Green (McMinn County). Top honors in the Junior High Division were: 1st - Hannah Snyder (McMinn County), 2nd - Madison Moats (Loudon County) and 3rd - Nate Long (Loudon County).

We had assistance from many people, East TN Research and Education Center (Dr. John Hodges, Dr. Bobby Simpson, Brandon Beavers) and Heritage High School FFA (Jon Waters, Judy Pearson, Mark Dowlen) provided facilities. Dr. Dwight Loveday, Doug Shanks and Alan Bruhin provided sheep for the clinic and Jonathan Pierce provided hogs for both days. Several past judging team members assisted with the camp including Jessy Harris and Clint Crisp (08 team), Erin Bartley (07 team) and Tyler Wilson (06 team) as well as Brian Campbell (05 TAM Commerce team and current PhD student).
